What is snowkiting?

Imagine floating through soft snow in a beautiful mountain landscape and letting the wind do all the work. This is what snow-kiting and ski-sailing is all about. Kiting and sailing are one of the best ways to travel around in the snow on either skis or a snowboard and it gives you access to some of the best backcountry areas in the world.

Here at Expeditions365 you can take your first steps with our 2 day Beginner Snowkiting Course, progress onto our 2 day Intermediate Snowkiting Course and then progress from there in whatever direction excites you.

If you like the idea of backcountry adventures with your kites, then join one of our guide kite trips in Norway kiting across the Hardangervidda National Park, if you start to dream big then sign up for our Expedition Kiting Course and learn all the skills you will need to make a major long distance kite expedition such as crossing the Greenland Icecap or Antarctica.

Beginner Snowkiting Course

Over two days learn all the basics of snowkiting; kiting safety, kite-handling on the ground and in the air, reading the wind and conditions. Our experienced and patient instructors will equip you with everything you need to know so that by the afternoon of the second day you will be strapping on your skis or snowboard and having your first experience of kiting joy.

The course starts at 8pm on the first evening with a short introduction and the basic theory of kiting. The first morning is spent learning about spot selection, weather, rigging, latching, safety systems and flying, the afternoon is then hands on flying, working in pairs to get to grips with the kite. Day two begins with compounding those new found flying skills and by the afternoon getting up on your skis or board.

All kite courses and trips are very weather and wind dependent. We will do our very best to make to make the most out of the conditions.

 Crossing The Hardangervidda

This 1-week trip is for more experienced kiters and only done on skis. Setting out from Dyranut we will float over the hills and frozen lakes of the Hardangervidda National Park heading south to the small town of Rjukan. Each night we will make a cosy camp in the snowy wilderness and enjoy some stories in the crisp winter night. Leaving Rjukan we will turn north again to our local town of Geilo and the final night will see us back in Haugastøl for a celebratory meal and a warm up in the sauna. This really is the perfect introduction to expedition kiting and to the rugged beauty of this pristine piece of Norwegian wilderness.
